$10,000 State Credit for New Homeowners

Starting March 1, California will make money available to new homeowners who are closing escrow on a new home.

Here is how it works: if you purchase a new home between March 2009 and March 2010, $10,000 will be credited over three years on your tax return. You must apply, and this is on a first come first serve basis. In addition, the federal govenment is offering $8,000 in federal income tax credits for first-time homebuyers who purchase before December 1, 2009.

To qualify for the CA rebate, you must live in the house for at least two years. This must be a new, never before occupied home.
